Cllr-James-Geoghegan-scaled.jpg

James Geoghegan was elected as a TD for Dublin Bay South in November 2024, having
served as an elected councillor on Dublin City Council since 2019.
He previously served as the 356th Lord Mayor of Dublin, elected in June 2024, where he
focused on three core priorities: making Dublin a safer city, a cleaner city, and progressing
the ambition of making Dublin the world’s first autismfriendly capital.
James lives in Clonskeagh with his wife, Claire, and their three children — Hugh, Harry and
Lila.
Before entering national politics, James practised as a barrister for over a decade,
specialising in public and administrative law.
As Fine Gael’s Spokesperson for Dublin, James has published several new laws. This
includes proposed measures to strengthen compulsory purchase powers in order to tackle
vacancy and dereliction. James has also proposed legislation to expand the use of CCTV in
highcrime areas to support An Garda Síochána.
As a parent of three young children, James understands the pressures of childcare costs
and has also proposed legislation aimed at expanding choice for families by supporting
childminders.
As a member of the Public Accounts Committee James tries to bring accountability to public
overspend in Government departments and state agencies.
James is focused on three key priorities:

  • Making Dublin a liveable city through the delivery of the Dublin City Taskforce

recommendations.

  • As Vice Chair of the AI Committee James is prioritising online safety, preparing for

the jobs of the future, and ensuring Ireland is ready to harness the benefits that AI
can bring.

  • Supporting neurodiversity and autism friendly environments in our communities,

schools and workplaces through his membership of the All Party Oireachtas
Committee on Autism.
In Dublin Bay South, James is a champion of community and works hard to deliver village
enhancements across the constituency. James is currently supporting a number of local
projects including the extension of the Luas to Poolbeg, more playing pitches for local clubs
and the delivery of the Sandymount flood relief project.
A sports fanatic, James is a Manchester United fan and regularly attends Leinster Rugby
matches.
